Work in the Goldberg lab focuses on the molecular interactions between microbial pathogens and humans that promote disease. Investigations query how pathogens and pathogen molecules alter signaling in host cells and the molecular mediators and pathways of the host response. Research includes investigations into the pathogenesis of Shigella, the most prevalent cause of diarrhea and dysentery worldwide, and the mechanisms underlying dysfunctional host responses in bacterial sepsis.
